Hefty Feelings
Mood:  irritated
Now Playing: Nothing... too pissed off.

Omg... maybe that's it!

I'm trying to find a fucking reason why I'm in such a bad mood over a motherfucker, and I can't really piece it together...

Except that it's September 22nd. My day of jynx. Don't ask, why! I haven't a fucking clue. It's always been the worst day of the year... and since midnight, nothing's gone right!

I wasn't even thinking about it, so it's not superstition. Tonight's shitty. Fuck! I probably won't be able to sleep tonight. But I know this for goddamn certain...

Fuck any motherfucker who ever tells me I can't do shit. Fuck them.

If they ever are exposed to these words, God bless them... Fuck you, asshole. I hope you choke on every word you fucking said to me when you were belittling my ambitions and capabilities. You sorry son-of-a-bitch. Rot in hell.

11 Ways to Piss Off Your Server
Mood:  caffeinated
Now Playing: Here in Your Arms - Hellogoodbye

1. Walk past the host stand to seat yourself in their section, then complain that your server didn't bring you any menus.

2. On that note, get the host to put you on the waiting list, but get irritable five minutes into it, and seat yourself at a dirty table. Then complain that the table is dirty and that your server didn't give you any menus. [You're already fucking up the rotation, jackass, you think you could be civil from here on out?!]

3. Order coffee with cream. After putting about three creams in your coffee, complain that it is lukewarm, not hot enough for you. [The cream isn't microwaved, bitch. I'm sorry, I mistakenly thought you wanted it refrigerated.]

4. Order a burger and asking for it to be "well-done, but not burnt." I can't help how the kitchen cooks it, but I can help how we fix it after the problem has arose. Let's expect the best, and if that doesn't happen, we'll go from there.

5. Let your kids trash your server's section, then stiffing them. Keep your crotch fruit at home if you're not willing to compensate for the God-forsaken mess they make.  [Thank you to my server at the awful Waffle Friday night for the term "crotch fruit." Props to you.]

6. Bring your entire extended family for a meal on the busiest shift of the week, then each one of you order a drink plus a water. [Your gene pool is full of cunts.]

7. Come in ten minutes before the kitchen closes down, and ordering an assload of food. [We're trying to get home, jackass. Try curbing your appetite by changing your lifestlye. Get your pot-smoking done earlier so we can feed you at a decent hour. Plus, we can all smell you from the middle of the restaurant.]

8. Be a dick to your server when your salad comes out looking like cole slaw. [Believe you me, I don't want you unhappy. I want as much of the money in your wallet to be put toward this check, so why in hell would I want this to happen?]

9. Order take-out, don't check your meal, and find every possible mistake. Call back and point out the problems, like we can do something about it. [Should've checked before you left genius. We can't fix it unless you come back. By the way, don't come back. You're a pain in the ass.]

10. Talk on the phone the whole time you're dining. [Go find this person and have a meal with them, you imbecile.]

11. Complain because you see your server sitting down. "Is my server on break?" [Yes, we are. If not, we're getting in a breather. Chill out.]

Getting my Groove Back
Mood:  cheeky
Now Playing: The Way I Are - Timbaland

I just realized that I forgot to pay my car note yesterday! Oh, my goodness. I can't believe I did that. Luckily, my dealership doesn't mind. I know them too well.

I called my cousin today. It was her 11th birthday... Time effin flies when you think about it.

We got a nice pop at work today. I made damn near a hundred dollars in tips tonight, and for my little chain restaurant, that's kick-butt on a week-night. And for the ornery elderly ladies who stiffed me because the cooks sent out your salad looking like cole slaw, "I'm sorry that I am omnipresent. I wish I could have been there to correct your damned salad before it when out. But you know what... I'm not God. Get him to feed you better."

My friend and I went dancing downtown. It was drizzling, and we took my umbrella. We looked really silly dressed for the club and running down the cobblestone in our flip-flops with an umbrella. Not to mention that the club was dead compared to other nights we've been.

Here was an interesting conversation. Stephen stopped me when I was aimessly marching around the restaurant, and he asked, "Jessica, what would you say if I told you that I may be getting a different job?"

"I say, go for it. I mean, I'd hate to see you leave, but do what you've got to do." Then I preceded to tell him about the situation with Brenda and my thoughts related to it.

"Tell wherever she goes that they're getting three instead... You know, I like serving, but I just feel so blah at the end of the day."

"Is it the tips? The pay?"

"Well, when I was keying, I was getting more hourly, but I wasn't getting tips. I still interacted with guests and servers, but I felt great at the end of the day. Weird, huh?

"Yeah. Are the people getting to you?"

"No, I get along really well with guests. Great tips, but... I don't know."

"Hm... I know I'm bitter, too, but I know certain reasons why I get irritated."

And so on and so forth. Either way you look at it, my workplace is in it for a gigantic transition, and it may not be a great thing for business. But as usual, I'll stick with my Hotel California. "You can clock out anytime you like, but you can never leave."

Well, "it is what it is," and it is very early. Many people are getting ready for work at this hour. I hate to drop this post to the public so short, but, again, I'm supporting my bad sleeping habits.

And by the way, I didn't wash my clothes this morning. I washed them about two hours ago. :)

Another Day
Mood:  spacey
Now Playing: We Danced Anyway - Deana Carter

Well, well, well... Apparently, I'm giving myself another shot at blogging. Let's see how long this one lasts.

Today was a typical one. I went to work. I felt behind on everything I wanted to when I woke up (as usual), yet I still left my apartment about 20 minutes earlier than I timely could have (also usual). I dropped by Starbucks to get my favorite coffee drink before arriving at work early still.

Brenda wasn't there yet. Cindy was preparing the bar, and Quick was on the line, as he always is on the weekday lunches. The other cooks I would work with were Nate and Josh. I sat my belongings on the expo line, took a swig from my cinnamon dolce frappuccino, and began to fill the cold well with ice. I noticed the new tea urns, tea and coffee makers, and coffee pots. I liked the coffee machine, but the new tea urns were not winning me over just yet.

When Brenda arrived, Quick and Nate simultaneously asked her why she was there.

"What do you mean, why am I here?"

They said that they thought she was leaving.

"We don't know for sure yet."

Then it clicked. Brenda plans on leaving the restaurant if the wrong person is promoted to general manager. "You're not going anywhere," I say.

"Watch me. If she's the GM, she'll fire me anyway."

She did have a point. Amanda didn't seem to like her, much less favor her.

"I'm going to look for another job."

"Well, wherever you go, tell them that they're going to get two for the price of one," I respond. "I'm not about to open with the amateurs they've hired lately."

Brenda shows me how the tea urn has to be set up, and I hated it even more after the demonstration. These tea urns are just like the ones at the job I left recently. Don't get me wrong... I loved it. Cool Springs, great coworkers, decent management... too much BS to top it all off. The money was wonderful, but I got to a point where the money wasn't worth the stress the job began putting on my personal life.

Brenda proceeds to let me in on the latest gossip. It's such a bad habit that I've developed during my employment in this restaurant. There's a very popular phrase among the servers in this particular chain. "As the Apple Turns," and variations.

When we finish our opening duties, Josh begins arguing with me about whose responsibility it was to keep up with his phone. Okay, okay, I did accidentally turn the heat lamp on when his phone was in the window, but I'm not a babysitter (especially for an electronic device). Still, I think we both should have kept our mouths shut on that one.

Not long after that, the hostess argues with me about whether Dejuan was in the right when he didn't call to tell the managers that he wasn't showing up. Granted, I understand that it wasn't his availability yesterday, but even I'd expect someone to call and let the manager know that they had a flaw in their schedule and that they would need to get someone to pick up the shift. Management's fault for scheduling wrong, manager's responsibility to fix it, but it's still common decency to let someone know what the heck's going on.

I get a call from Rodriguez, a cook from Sonic.

"Oh, my bad, I didn't mean to call you. For real, I meant to call my boy Jesse."

"It's not problem. It's fine."

"Aight. Later."

Ugh. Something tells me that I'm staying away from that one for a reason.

Darryl arrives slightly earlier than usual. He began to refill the sugars. Shortly after he came, Lydia, Jenn D, and Kimberly showed up. I recall telling Jenn D and Brenda that, if it weren't for them, I would have left already.

The shift begins. We are completely dead save one guest in the entire house for about thrity minutes. Mark, the current general manager, arrives and, not long after doing so, he prints the overtime warning report. Nate was at forty hours, as usual. Daniel, the new fry cook, was over forty, which is where he had hoped to be. Brenda was right up there with them, too. Mark made her leave, and she went job hunting. "Hey, don't forget to tell everyone that it's hire one, get one free!"

I finally start getting tables. Nobody really stuck out in my mind today, except maybe the guy who ordered the trio, water, and a blondie to-go. The only reason I remember him is because he was taken aback when I told him that the dessert would be out in three to four minutes at the latest.

"Really, that long?"

Eh, he wasn't rude about it at all, and for that I sped the process along a bit for him.

I did at some point get a call from Payday Advance regarding my sister's dad's whereabouts. I haven't a clue why he put me as a reference, but I gave them Kim's number and told them that it was out of my hands. I don't talk to him anymore, and I don't care to hunt him down for them. Besides, they didn't call me before they gave him money. Their fault, not mine.

Chris arrived early so Lydia could meet her dad for an early dinner. I cashed out at three thirty because he said he'd pick up any tables if I got sat. I doubt I was sat after leaving.

I stopped by Todd and Hayley's on the way home. Todd was reading the classifieds. He was looking for a job for Jeremy, his roommate. Nearly ex-roommate from the way things have been going between them.

"Jessica, you know that they just moved out the people under us."

"You mean, they're redoing their apartment?"

"Yeah, that means we're the only ones in the building besides that weird lady across from us."

I could tell there was something else to this exclamation.

"We can have a big, loud party!"

I laugh at that one. "Todd, we'd be loud whether they lived here or not."

"We'd have a party whether they lived here or not."

Hayley straightened her hair today. I reminded her that it was Wednesday (inside joke). We then teased Todd about it a bit.

La Dee Dah... Time flew by after I left their place.

My dad called me today. At first, I thought it was just to tell me that he loved me, which worried me at first. It sounded like the beginning to a conversation that ends with, "Well, the doctor said it's anytime now, and I'm going to miss you." It turned out that his phone was about to run out of minutes, so he wanted to let me know before they did.

Other than that, I've been at home, yet again neglecting my chores around here. My dirty laundry is beginning to affect my mood, so I'll be sure to get on it in the morning. I'll report whether that happens or not next time...
